Keeping Your Bike Safe.

Buying a road bike, whether it be a racing bike or a mountain bike can prove to be quite a costly exercise, especially if you are a serious rider and you have opted for a top of the range bike. It appears that bikes like this are being targeted by thieves, especially those that are left at railways stations during the day.

Two men have been jailed in Sussex after a serious of bike thefts at railway stations dotted around the county. Burgess Hill Railway Station was just one of those stations that were targeted, and now the culprits have been prosecuted and placed behind bars. Bikes are considered to be easy targets these days, especially as some of the more expensive bikes are extremely lightweight and easily moved, and are often taken to order and sold on.

Investigating Officer DI Cooper was pleased with the outcome of the recent case and had this to say following the imprisonment of the two culprits. He said, “I hope this sentence acts as a deterrent for others who think that they can get away with stealing bikes. I also hope it lets people know that the British Transport Police takes cycle theft very seriously.”

DI Cooper went on to say, “Anyone who notices suspicious behaviour near station cycle tracks, or has any information about cycle crime on the railways can help by contacting British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 .”

It is extremely sad that people resort to this sort of behaviour, and it must be devastating for the owners to find their pride and joy missing when they step off the train. That is why many people are now opting to have bikes in their living rooms at home and exercise that way rather than cycle to work. If you think about it for a minute that may actually be a more sensible way to exercise. For starters you can exercise when you want and for how long you want, and you do not have to contend with all the people rushing home from work and paying no respect to cyclists whatsoever.

Also by cycling in your own home you are not subjecting yourself to all of those fumes and gases that cars and public transport give off. If you are looking to exercise more this year you could do a lot worse than buy an indoor bike, if for no other reason than it is safer than leaving your bike while you go to work. Just remember that if you want to be fit and healthy, you need to think about exercise all year round and not just in January. The great thing about indoor cycling is that you don’t have to worry about adverse weather conditions affecting your bike ride. In fact even hot weather can make cycling outside harder work than it needs to be – you can avoid this by indoor cycling too!

New Indoor Cycles For South Sheilds.

Brand new state of the art indoor cycles have been purchased due to a Lottery grant of £10,000. Cycling enthusiasts are being encouraged to use the indoor cycling equipment at SW Cycle Club in Temple Park Road South Shields.

The SW Cycle Club has been in existence for around 18 months it is made up of pupils from St.Wilfreds School as well as members of the public in the local community. It is a club for mixed ages; you are never too old to try your hand at cycling. Many pupils come along to the classes with their parents or their grandparents.

The equipment has enabled the club to run cycle fitness classes with monitoring of heart rates to track pupil’s progress. The club have enjoyed regular bike rides including coast to coast challenges and many skill classes.

The indoor cycles will now allow everyone involved to be able to participate in cycling no matter what the weather is outside. There is a virtual bike race programme which is exciting for all concerned and music in the background while you cycle to energising tracks.

Indoor cycling is a fantastic way to get fit and healthy for people of all ages and fitness levels and to add to that the fact that you are able to do all this indoors is an added bonus, no more excuses about the weather for not going cycling.

Don’t worry if you aren’t local to South Shields because there should still be local options for you when it comes to indoor cycling. Not everyone has heard of indoor cycling as a hobby, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t popular. In fact as a hobby it is becoming more and more popular all the time which means that finding somewhere to enjoy it locally should not be too much of a struggle.

If you want to take up indoor cycyling but aren’t sure where to start then a quick search online should help.  Firstly you can search to read up all about the hobby and what you will need to do to get started. Once you have done this you can carry on your search and tailor it towards finding local sports halls and centres that offer indoor cycling. Of course when you search for all of this online you can also look for what you need to buy to enjoy this – including any safety equipment and clothing you might need.

Before you join SW Cycle Club or any other local cycling club, you’ll need to make sure that you have everything you need to enjoy the hobby properly and safety. This is why it is essential that you do your research on what is needed and buy everything you need from the start. Not only that buy being organised and buying online also allows you to get a bargain and make sure that whatever you buy, you have the best possible value for money.
